So I started this journey back in November 2009 to get into amateur MMA and see where it would take me. I picked up my new MMA coach, Dave Reeves in January 2010 and my training for MMA began to fall into place along with all the strength and conditioning work that I was already doing with Dino. From the beginning I had the support of Need To Build Muscle as the first sponsor to believe in my abilities and help me out along the way with whatever I needed. I got my first fight out of the way in 2:20 into the first round in Chicago in March and everything picked up very quickly from there. I picked up my manager, Disorderly Conduct and a number of sponsors including LA Boxing Chantilly, PimpIt Fight Team, Dent Clinic and most recently Tap Out and The Gun Store. I took on my second opponent in June in Atlantic City and defeated her at only 23 seconds into the first round and then went into a hard training cycle for the first round of the Tuff –N- Uff 135lb. Women’s Tournament in Las Vegas on July 2nd.
Tuff –N- Uff is the top amateur show in the country, showcasing a lot of new talent in the ever growing sport of mixed martial arts and taking steps to further the careers of the participants through media exposure and the creation of title holders in each weight class. Tuff –N- Uff most recently put together the 125lb. and 135lb. Amateur Women’s Tournament and chose only 8 women in each weight class to compete for the first ever Tuff –N- Uff Title. I was fortunate to be chosen as one of the competitors in the 135lb. division and took full advantage of all the publicity surrounding the tournament. The first round of the competition took place on July 2nd where I faced off against Greg Jackson’s female MMA product, Emily Peters-Kagan and won by unanimous decision. Although Strikeforce veteran, Julie Kedzie was in her corner, I was able to quickly dominate every round of the fight and defeat their game plan which earned me a spot in the semi-final round against Jocelyn “Lights Out” Lybarger on August 6th. Following the semi-final round, I will be training for the title fight scheduled for September 24th which will seal my record at an undefeated 5 – 0, put my name in the books as the first 135lb. women’s title holder for Tuff –N- Uff, and pave the way for me to smoothly transition to the 145lb. division as a professional MMA fighter. Strikeforce here I come!
It is almost hard for me to believe that I have only been training hard for MMA for 6 months and I am already fighting in Vegas with the likes of Strikeforce and UFC veterans in the audience. What a trip! I have never been the type of person to get star struck by having “famous” fighters around but I must admit it is kind of cool to think that they are there to watch my fight. I would say that this opportunity has opened up many doors for me and has opened my eyes to how big this sport is becoming. There is something about the crowd screaming for you when you win that makes you want to do it all over again and it never seems to get old when random people walk up to congratulate you or to ask how you did. There’s just something about that feeling that screams that this was what I was meant to do, I can be myself and have fun and get recognized for it, what else could you ask for in life.
There are tons of pics from the first round of the Tuff –N- Uff Tournament available at my web site: www.ashleyweakley.com and click on Portfolio at the top of the page. I added a couple of my favorites at the bottom for a sample.
The video is currently available at www.gofightlive.tv but you still have to pay $9.99 to watch it. I assure you I am worth the $10, however if you want to wait, it will be up on YouTube soon.
The Semi-Final Round is scheduled for August 06, 2010 at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. If you have a chance to make it out, I will put on a good show for you. You can also watch it live for $9.99 at www.gofightlive.com or just join my FaceBook page and you will get the update immediately following the fight.
Big thanks to all of my fans, family, friends and supporters. I couldn’t have got this far without you. And a special thanks to Need To Build Muscle for hooking me up with the best supplements on the market because I looked ripped in all the photos from the fight! Couldn’t be happier with the outcome!
